A Twitter user recently shouted out the Grammy-winning rapper and asked why she isn’t using her platform to raise awareness on social justice issues or political matters.

Cardi responded:

That answer sparked an intense debate on Twitter, with some users claiming that Cardi’s activism didn’t go far enough while others stated her voice is needed to spark change.

Surprisingly, even the GOP entered the conversation, with Republican National Committee spokesperson Paris Dennard telling TMZ on Saturday that he hopes the “WAP” rapper ignores cancel culture and resumes speaking her mind. Dennard also argued that, if Cardi B is too afraid to share her true opinions online, others may also stay silent out of fear of the potential backlash and persecution.

Even though the two are at opposite ends of the political spectrum, the Republican acknowledges how powerful Cardi’s platform is and believes she should use it to spark necessary conversation, considering how she’s interviewed both President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders over matters that are important to her.

Dennard also took note of Nicki Minaj‘s latest scandal — where her comments about the COVID-19 sparked an intense backlash — in addition to Kanye West and Lil Wayne supporting former President Donald Trump, noting that their music and sales numbers remained relatively unaffected despite the controversial nature of their viewpoints.
