Cardi B Celebrates “Up” Dominating The Rap Charts

Cardi B is celebrating the success of her new single “Up,” which had one of the highest rap song debuts in decades.

The single is currently number two and was held off from the top spot by Olivia Rodrigo’s popular “Drivers License” that extended its lead on Billboard‘s Hot 100 for a fifth straight week.

Cardi is taking the runner-up placement in stride, celebrating the fact that she achieved a feat that hasn’t been witnessed since Lauryn Hill bowed in the Number 2 spot with “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.

The Grammy winner celebrated her ninth Top 10 single on Tuesday and honored her fans for helping her shake up the Billboard charts.

“Just landed and my wifi back poppin. I want to say thank you to all my fans and supporters this is BIG for me,” she tweeted. “I wanted to beat my last solo single number & I over succeeded. First time a female rapper debut top 5 since Lauren. This is pop girl [stuff] but I’m not pop.”

Cardi’s last solo effort was her spicy “WAP” collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion — which blew all the way up to the top of the Billboard 100 over the summer.

Prior to learning how her new single performed commercially, the 28-year-old rapper admitted she was anxious about how “Up” would be received.

“At the beginning of last week I was crying because one single post put my confidence down,” she explained. “She needs promo , she’s a flop, she needs help erasing the fact I been constantly winning. I had to brush it off remind myself I beat records wit my last record & now boom .Chart too high.”

“Up” dominated several other charts — including Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Hot Rap Songs, Digital Song Sales and Streaming Songs.
